Avis (Lipp) Baker, 91, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully at her home with her caring family by her side on Thursday, October 21, 2021. She was the loving wife of 44 years of the late Richard B. Baker. Born in Manchester on July 14, 1930, a daughter of the late Jacob and Matilda (Baumgartner) Lipp. Avis was a graduate of Manchester High School, class of 1948 and went on to have a very successful career at the Travelers Insurance Company, retiring after more than thirty years. She was an avid reader who liked gardening, cooking, and entertaining at the holidays for her family and friends. She was also a devoted animal lover who took pride in caring for all animals. Most of all, she cherished her time with her entire family, but especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who valued her wisdom, traditions, and unbiased love. The family will forever hold dear her many superstitions and sage advice.
Avis is survived by her son, Paul Baker and his wife Sharon of South Windsor; her daughter, Patricia Baker and her wife, Cassie Fedeli, of Bethany and East Hartford; seven beloved grandchildren, Ryan Baker and Denise, Katlyn Baker and Dan, Jennifer Logan and Sven, Elizabeth Heil and Eric, Ami-Lynn Bisson and Josh, Eric Sicard, Kristy Dalpez and Connie; and nine adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Sharon “Peg” Felgate of Florida; two special nieces Barbara Schubert and Priscilla Ather both of Florida; special friends, Awilda and Richard Montanez of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Along with her loving husband and parents, Avis was predeceased by a son, Richard E. Baker of Windsor; a daughter, Cynthia Bisson of Arizona; dear friends, Dot and Art Masse of East Hartford; two sisters; and three brothers.
A memorial service celebrating Avis’ life will be Friday (October 29, 2021) at 11 am at South Congregational Church, East Hartford with Rev. Fredd Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. There are no calling hours. Due to the town of East Hartford Mask Mandate, everyone is required to wear a facemask at the church service on Friday morning and adhere to all of the regulations of the church.
