

Barbara S. (Blood) Abbott, 95, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Born in Boston on March 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Ethel (Chamberlain) Blood. She graduated from Melrose High School, class of 1948 and then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in 1952. Shortly after Barbara finished school, she married the love of her life of over 58 years, Reginald “Reggie” Abbott. They settled down in East Hartford to raise a family. Prior to retirement, Barbara worked as a paraprofessional in the East Hartford school system.
A strong member of faith, Barbara was a member of South Congregational Church, East Hartford for over 67 years. She was an animal lover and enjoyed painting and doing other various crafts. Most of all she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her children: son, David G. Abbott and his wife Lisa of East Hartford; three daughters, Jeannette Ann Abbott and her husband Paul Williams of Tolland, Deborah J. Bostock and her husband George of Kentucky, and Kathleen M. Abbott and her husband Gian Luigi Piotto of Glastonbury; six adored grandchildren; two special great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her husband Reginald “Reggie” Abbott, her son Robert Reginald Abbott, her sister Joan Allen, her granddaughter Valerie Bostock, and her best friend of 66 years, Ann Tomaselli.
A funeral service to honor Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 10 am at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Barbara’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church library on Saturday morning from 9 – 10 am, prior to the 10 am service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St Unit O, East Hartford, CT 06118. Barbara’s children would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Brookdale of South Windsor for their compassionate care of Barbara over the last year.
