

Barbara Ann (Smith) Mangan, 78, of East Hartford and Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, (December 21, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Barbara was the loving wife for over 26 years to the late James C. Mangan, Sr. Born in Middletown on May 26, 1932, a daughter of the late William and Mae (Comerford) Smith, she had resided in East Hartford for 53 years. She was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1950 and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1953. Barbara was a dedicated Registered Nurse for over 40 years and retired from St. Francis Hospital where she had made many life-long friends. She enjoyed all sports and was an avid UCONN fan. She loved traveling and liked to shop, and looked forward to her monthly luncheon with her nursing classmates. Most of all, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Indian Town Beach in Old Saybrook, where she loved to entertain and host her annual Memorial Day and Labor Day parties. Along with her beloved husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, James C. Mangan, Jr., and a sister, Mary Kay Smith. Barbara Ann is survived by her two devoted daughters, Sheila Pattison and her husband, James, and Betsy Mangan all of East Hartford; three adored grandchildren, Meaghan Pattison, James Pattison, Jr., and Molly Pattison all of East Hartford. She also leaves four sisters-in-law, Elida Mangan, Peggy Curry, Joann Mangan, Aileen Henningsen; and a brother-in-law, Patrick Shannon; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Barbara will be truly missed by all. Funeral services will be Tuesday (December 28th) at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Church, One Community Street, East Hartford. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
