

Barbara (Cormier) Yockachonis, aka “Ahma/Gram”, 85, formerly of East Hartford, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by the love of her life for over fifty years, T. David “Butch” Yockachonis. Born in Hartford, a daughter of the late William P. and Irene (Berger) Cormier, she had resided in East Hartford for 61 years. Barbara was educated in Hartford parochial and West Hartford public schools, and graduated from William Hall High School, class of 1953. She spent the best years of her life as a stay-at-home mom enjoying quality time with her children, and as an active PTA parent. A devout catholic, Barbara was a faithful active communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, in East Hartford and a longtime member of the church Retirees Club. Barbara worked as an Assistant Town Clerk for the Town of East Hartford for many years until her retirement in 1997. She then became Director for the Town of East Hartford Retirees Club alongside her friend Ann Trainor. Barbara’s kindness, generosity, caring nature, and concern about the well-being of her family and friends was of the utmost importance to her.
She will forever be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Suzanne Y. Kitchen and her husband Gregory, Donna Y. Sahlberg, and Debra Y. Dolan; her adored grandchildren, Michelle “Presch” Dery and her husband Jason, Sarah “Popette” Harris and her husband Christopher, David “My Boy” Dolan and his wife Jaime, Krista “Taa” Spada and her husband Christopher, and Kathryn “My Sweetheart” Dolan. She also leaves her heart, love and prayers to her sweet and adorable great grandchildren who had filled her life with love and joy; her loving sister-in-law, Faye Cormier; two nieces, Linda M. Green and Renee C. Guida; two special friends, Kim Weingart and Joan Ross who were like family to her; several cousins, and many dear friends. Besides her beloved husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Lorraine (Cormier) Mumford, and her younger brother, William P. Cormier, Jr.
Funeral service will be on her birthday, Monday (March 22, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Monday morning and due to the current health pandemic, please wear a face covering and adhere to all of the state, church, and funeral home regulations. Barbara’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday (March 21, 2021) from 2 – 4 pm at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Barbara’s name to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
