Carmelo Burgio

Carmelo Burgio, 83, of East Hartford, loving husband for 61 years to Giovanna (Napolitano) Burgio, peacefully passed away on Thursday, (July 22, 2010) with his caring family by his side. Born in Tunisi, Tunisia on August 12, 1926, a son of the late Salvatore and Crocifissa (Pioppo) Burgio, he has been a resident of East Hartford since 1986. Prior to his retirement, Carmelo was a machine operator for many years in the Hartford area. He was a faithful communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford and enjoyed visiting the Italian Club weekly with his friends. He also liked fishing, soccer, and playing cards with his friends. However, his passion was spending time and Italian dinners with his boys, and especially enjoying his Italian Red Wine and homemade meals everyday prepared by his beloved wife of 61 years. Along with his wife, Giovanna, Carmelo is survived by his five devoted sons, Carlo Burgio and his wife, Concetta, of East Hartford, Pietro Burgio and his wife, Lucia, of Bolton, Mario Burgio and his wife, Lucia, of South Windsor, Enrico Burgio and his wife, Robin, of Southington, Daniele Burgio and his wife, Jennifer, of Old Lyme; 11 special grandchildren, Simona, Alessandra and her husband, Corie Gugliotti, Erica, Daniel, Peter, Marco, Lorenzo, Cristian, Sebastian, Chiara, and Meggie; two adored great-granddaughters, Giada and Malena Gugliotti; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 35), Hartford.
