

Carmen Rosa (Montalvo) Martinez, 88, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late Jose Luis Martinez entered into eternal rest on Tuesday (December 13, 2011). She was born in Santiago de Cuba on July 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Jose and Aurora (Boeras) Montalvo. Carmen received her Masters Degree in Education from University of Havana and was a teacher in Alacranes y La Havana for many years. She came to the United States, worked, and retired from Hartford National Bank. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Maria del Carmen Cabrera of Glastonbury; two sisters, Zonia Echevarria of East Hartford and Graciela Portuondo of Tampa, FL; her beloved grandchildren, Sara Rodriguez Golden and her husband Paul of Fort Leavenworth, KS, Rosa Maria Rodriguez Grady and her husband Steve of Sewell, NJ, Alex Rodriguez and his wife Katie of Glastonbury, and Michael Rodriguez of Dallas, TX. Carmen is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Maria and Elena Grady, Carolina, Ana and Liam Golden, Abby, Alex, and Michael Rodriguez, and Emilia Rodriguez; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also predeceased by her sisters, Teresa Canda, Olga Gonzalez, Sara Correa, Marta Amenabar, and Melba Montalvo.
Funeral service will be Thursday (December 15) at 11 a.m. at the D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. The burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
