Born in Margaretville in upstate New York, Carroll called herself a Yankee for her whole life, despite living in such diverse places as San Diego, Salt Lake City, Whitestone NY, Flushing NY, Longwood FL, and East Hartford CT.
As a proud member of the Greatest Generation, Carroll served in the Navy in WW II. She met her future husband Paul, another Navy veteran, while stationed at San Diego’s naval base. They married during the war and were life partners for 69 years until Paul passed in 2013. She leaves behind her beloved daughter Melody Carroll Hyllen-Davey and son-in-law Bruce William Davey; two grandchildren: Brian Scott Davey (married to Rebecca Carroll) and Arienne Carroll Davey (married to Meredith Phillips); and five grandchildren: Kieran Davey and Isabel Carroll; Emma Farrow, Becca Farrow, and Nico Farace. She also leaves behind many heartbroken friends who will miss her great sense of humor and loyal friendship.
Carroll worked her entire life, and was always a valued employee. In Florida she had a fine career in the banking industry and before that, in New York, was a long-term manager for Michelin Tire.
Carroll was an accomplished artist who turned out an oil painting every month, at least, even when she was well into her 90’s. Her work was always remarkable.
She was best known for her painting ability, her very sharp sense of humor, and a keen mind that remained sharp until the end. She was a voracious reader and a collector of fine art and antiques. She loved to travel, and she and Paul visited such far-off lands as Africa, China, the UK, and Italy as well as most of the US with side trips to Canada and Mexico. She was also a great lover of dogs, and each one she took in was “the best dog I ever had.” Her most recent companion was her beloved rescue dog Archie – “best dog she ever had.”
She will be greatly missed and always remembered by family and friends.
Due to the current health pandemic, private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
