

Charlie Wade Brewer, 80, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Laurine (McClendon) Brewer died Tuesday August 9, 2011 at his home in East Hartford. Mr. Brewer was born in West Point, GA, son of the late Eddie and Leona (Whatley) Brewer and lived in East Hartford for the past 45 years. He was employed by the Charter Oak Construction Company of West Hartford. Charlie spent more than 60 years with them, including his employment as a Superintendent, and as a Consultant, post is retirement. He was a sports enthusiast and a ""World Class"" husband, father and grandfather. Charlie was actively involved in coaching, guiding, and supporting all sports, civic and church activities for his family and extended family members. He was a former Chairman, East Hartford Building Board of Appeals, former scoutmaster- Boy Scouts of America and Silver Beaver Award Recipient, and former Chairman of the East Hartford Vikings Midget Football Association. Charlie also was the recipient of the Democrat of The Year, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, State of Connecticut - Office of The Treasurer Special Recognition, Office of Attorney General - Official Citation, State of Connecticut General Assembly Official Citation and the Town of East Hartford Proclamation. Besides his devoted wife of 58 years, Charlie is survived by four children; a son, Charles Wade Brewer and his wife Margaret of Manchester; three daughters, Shirley Burgess of Silver Spring, MD, Sheila Brewer of Richmond, VA and Belinda K. Taylor of Stafford, VA; a sister, Sue Reese of Columbus, GA and seven grandchildren, Alonzo Brewer, Tishawna Colander, Brinden McGowan, Brianna Taylor, Tamika Taylor, Rachel Brewer and Lydia Brewer. Charlie was predeceased by a son Ervin Brewer and a son-in-law Elliott Burgess. Funeral services and burial will be private. Calling hours will be Sunday August 14, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. at the D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
