Daryl Lukas

Daryl Lukas, 69, of East Hartford, CT passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026. Daryl was born on September 3, 1957, in Hartford, CT to parents William Lukas Jr. and Geraldine Chambers. Growing up in a lively household with his brothers, John, Greg, and William Lukas III, Daryl developed a love for family, sports, and storytelling that would carry him through his life. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers John and Greg, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and laughter.

A proud 1975 graduate of East Hartford High School, Daryl embarked on a career as a commercial roofer. His work is up and down the East Coast, as he was happy to point out on many road trips. Daryl had an enduring love for sports, particularly his Minnesota Vikings. He treasured trips to New York with his brothers to watch the Yankees, and attending NASCAR races with his children. A natural storyteller, Daryl often reminisced about his days bowling in a league with his dad & three brothers, each tale filled with humor and affection.

For the past 15 years, Daryl made his home with his devoted girlfriend, Lucie. They enjoyed road trips, travel and gardening together. He also maintained a warm friendship with his ex-wife, JoAnn, with whom he shared 13 years of marriage and two wonderful children. Daryl leaves behind his son Jeffrey Lukas (Charleston, SC), daughter Dena Johnson and her husband Jeremy (Johns Island, SC), and four grandchildren: Julian Lukas (11), Silas (9), Bryce (6), and Vivienne Johnson (4). His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life. He treasured the time he spent with them, especially their lake getaways throughout the South, and cherished the memorable trips he took to the Outer Banks with his children when they were younger. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Joanne, nieces Christine and Courtney, and nephew Gregory, who will forever hold their memories of him close.

Daryl had a special love for dogs, often welcoming them into his life and loving them as his own, especially his beloved Diamond. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, always ready to lend a hand. His strong, hardworking hands reflected a lifetime of work, while his strong heart reflected a lifetime of love, generosity, and compassion. Never afraid to show his emotions, Daryl's open heart and genuine tears were a testament to his deep capacity for love and empathy. A creature of habit, he found comfort in watching TV reruns, laughing heartily at the same scenes time and again. Surrounded by a close circle of friends, including Steve, George, and John, Daryl led a life rich in companionship and camaraderie. His warmth and humor were infectious, forging bonds that lasted a lifetime.

A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 AM on October 3, 2026, followed by a service to celebrate Daryl's life at 11 AM at D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, located at 30 Carter Street in East Hartford, CT.
