

Edward A. O'Brien, 76, of East Hartford, died Monday, (January 22, 2007) in Saint Francis Hospital. He was born in Hartford and was a son of the late Jeremiah F. and Florence (Wilson) O'Brien. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Edward lived in East Hartford his entire life and married Theresa Rice in 1965. Besides his wife, he also leaves his daughter, Barbara and her husband James McGrath of Holden, ME; his two grandchildren, Christopher and his fiancee Julie Hoffman of Bristol, PA and Tammy and her husband Scott Dudley of Stockbridge, GA; six great-grandchildren; his sister Jean and her husband Frank Jones of East Hartford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother William. Edward worked for many years as an appliance repairman, but music was his life. He was a drummer and a singer. He served as past president of the American Folk Musicians Association, and was in numerous bands, including O'B and the Double Eagles and O'B and the Nutones, and most recently, Friday nights at the East Hartford South End Seniors, O'B and Friends. Edward was also involved in many civic and social organizations, including American Legion Post #102 where he was a member of the Executive Board, past Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose, and past Commander of Civil Air Patrol. He was also Scoutmaster of Troop #18 in Hartford and Troop #91 in Manchester. Funeral services are Saturday, January 27, 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend James Nock officiating at the D'ESOPO EAST HARTFORD MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors in Silver Lane Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday, 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
