Edward A. Sweeney

Edward A. Sweeney, 89, of East Hartford, loving husband of sixty-three years to Eileen M. (Wiggins) Sweeney, entered into eternal rest on Saturday (January 10, 2009). Born in Fall River, MA, on December 8, 1919, a son of the late Daniel and Ellen (Alyward) Sweeney, he had resided in East Hartford for over fifty years. Edward was a proud U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Prior to his retirement, Edward was employed as a chemist by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co., East Hartford for thirty-five years. Edward was an avid gardener, especially of vegetables, and was a very loyal and devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox. Along with his beloved wife, Eileen, Edward is survived by three sons, Jeffrey D. Sweeney of San Diego, CA, Timothy E. Sweeney of Rocky Hill, John A. Sweeney and his wife, Darlene, of Shelburne, VT; two daughters, Mary M. Sweeney of Golden, CO, Eileen E. LeRoy and her husband, Daniel J., of Niantic; five special grandchildren, Joel M. Sweeney and his wife, Sandra, of Carlsbad, CA, Jacob R. Sweeney of San Diego, CA, Colin M. Sweeney of Shelburne, VT, Allie D. Sweeney of Shelburne, VT, Fiona M. Sweeney of Old Saybrook; and two adored great-grandchildren, Skylar Grace Sweeney and Gunner Sweeney. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 15 at 10:30 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial with Military Honors will be at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
