Elaine Susan (Hilly) Newcomb, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026 at her home after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. For 46 years Elaine was the loving wife of the late Kenneth M. Newcomb, Jr. of Hanson, MA. Born in
Brockton, MA on August 3, 1950, the eldest daughter of the late Stacey and Eleanor (Jenness) Hilly, she had been a resident of Hanson, MA for 54 years prior to moving to CT in 2025 to live in the care of her daughters.
Elaine was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in Whitman, MA, class of 1968. Prior to her retirement, Elaine was employed for many years as Paraprofessional for the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District where she was lovingly referred to as “The Math Angel.” She had a myriad of jobs throughout the years from Tupperware Manager (where on two separate occasions she earned a new car), retail management, years in office administration, and an Avon Ambassador, all while helping manage her husband’s businesses. She was also a volunteer for The Friends of the Hanson Senior Center.
A talented individual with many interests, Elaine painted ceramics, was in a bowling league, loved swimming and her aqua aerobics classes; she also had a “green thumb” for any plants in her home. She enjoyed traveling throughout New England and was an
avid reader. She loved to shop - back to school, Christmas gifts, and staying in the latest styles. She enjoyed making the holidays special for her children and family and she loved entertaining at her home, especially for Christmas. Most of all, Elaine was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Among her favorite things in life was sharing a pot of tea with her dearest friends, goofing with her kids and dancing with her husband.
Elaine is survived by two daughters, Kimberly A. Newcomb, Stacia M. Newcomb and her husband Jonathan Manley, and her son, Kenneth M. Newcomb. She also leaves behind several dear friends and her “Teddy Bear”, Ted Coakley with whom she shared
the last few years. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Elaine was predeceased by a daughter, Christina L. Newcomb.
A MOMorial dinner celebrating Elaine’s life will be held Friday evening, April 17, at 6pm at Meadow Brook Restaurant, 1486 Main Street, Hanson, MA. A private burial will be held by her family at the Bourne National Veteran’s Cemetery in Bourne, MA, where she
will be laid to rest with her “Special Angel,” her loving husband. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elaine’s name may be made to CurePSP (psp.org). The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East
Hartford, CT has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements. For on-line expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopoeh.com
