
Ernest C. Mintel, 91, of East Hartford, loving husband of 61 years to the late Helen (Brennan) Mintel, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, (January 15, 2011). Born in Bridgeport on July 21, 1919, a son of the late Ernest J. and Caroline (Rogg) Mintel, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1954. Ernest was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1937. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II where he was a Staff Sergeant Radio Operator in the 438th Troop Carrier Command of the 9th Air Force and was awarded the Air Medal. Ernest was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford as a Cost Analyst in the Engineering Department, retiring in 1984 after 45 years of dedicated and loyal service. He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford volunteering for many years at Bingo and serving as an usher at Mass. Ernest was an avid golfer, reader, cross-word puzzle solver, and movie and history ""buff"", but truly enjoyed spending time with his family especially at the beaches in Niantic and the Florida Keys. He is survived by three loving children; two daughters, Maura Pauli and her husband, Frederick of New Milford and Carol Fonseca and her husband Deniz of Hebron; a son, Ernest J. Mintel and his wife, Antoinette of East Hartford, as well as five cherished grandchildren, Mary, Tim, and Laura Mintel, Jaime and Sarah Fonseca. He also leaves a sister, Catherine Morneau of Windsor; several nieces, nephews, and dear neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be Friday (January 21st) at 9:30 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, (Section J), Bloomfield.
