

Ernesto ""Ernie"" Garcia, 70, of East Hartford and formerly of Hartford, entered into eternal life on Friday, (July 7, 2006) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Iquitos, Peru, a son of the late Antonio and Anna (Olivera) Garcia, he had resided in Hartford for over thirty years prior to moving to East Hartford in 1994. He was a retired machinist working for over 25 years at the former Whitney Chain, Hartford. He was a devout communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Hartford. Ernie enjoyed playing tennis at Elizabeth Park, Hartford with the regular players, and also loved to go fishing. He was also a long-time devoted fan and ""sideline coach"" of the Hartford Public High School soccer team. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son, Gregg Garcia of Hartford, and his two sisters, Mary and Anna. Mr. Garcia is survived by three sons, Alan E. Garcia and his wife, Vivian, of East Hartford with whom he made his home, Anthony F. Garcia of East Hartford, Edward Garcia and his wife, Silke, of Jacksonville, FL; a step-daughter, Maritza Julia of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Antonio Garcia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Mauro Garcia of East Hartford; 11 special grandchildren; three adored great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Monday, July 10, at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, New Park Ave, Hartford. Burial will be at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Ernesto's name may be made to the Clothing Foundation for Peruvian families in Peru, c/o the Garcia Family, East Hartford.
