March 20, 1930February 10, 2021

Florence “Pat” Virginia (Root) Nelson, 90, peacefully entered eternal life on February 10, 2021. Pat was the loving wife of over 60 years to Robert Nelson, who predeceased her in September, 2020. They are now reunited in the presence of our Lord. Born in Hillsboro, NY on March 20, 1930, a daughter of the late John and Mary Hesper (Thorpe) Root, she was the youngest of eleven siblings. Pat had been a resident of the Ellington/Vernon area for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved being surrounded by family and leaves behind wonderful memories of Sunday dinners and family gatherings. Pat had a sense of humor that would keep you on your toes and sometimes make you scratch your head. Besides being a wonderful mother and wife, she also held several positions to help her family thrive. When her family was young and growing she worked as a cafeteria worker in the Ellington school system. Later in life she was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company where she had a fulfilling career. In retirement she enjoyed travel with her husband Bob, reading, crafts, trips to the casino, and cheering for the Boston Red Sox and UConn Huskies. Pat is survived by two sons, Rev. Robert M. Fredrickson and his wife, Kathaleen, of Merritt Island, FL, Mark L. Nelson and his wife, Elaine, of Enfield; two daughters, Linnea Morrow and her husband, Larry, of West Suffield, Lynn Stavens and her husband, Joel, of Tolland; eight cherished grandchildren; ten adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Due to the current health crisis, a private funeral service will be by invitation only. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Florence “Pat’s” name may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108. The D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
