

Frederick W. Leone, Sr., 92, of East Hartford, loving husband for over 64 years to the late Marjorie C. (Monticone) Leone, peacefully journeyed Home to be with his family and our Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at his home. Born in Hartford on June 27, 1922, a son of the late Fred F. and Helene (Bronke) Leone, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. He was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1939. His devotion to his family began by avidly participating in his family’s tobacco business for over 25 years, where they were the largest independent tobacco grower in the Connecticut Valley during that time. In 1959, he and his brothers built and operated a 52-lane ten-pin bowling center known today as Silver Lane AMF Bowling, East Hartford. In addition, Leone Enterprises built and operated two wine and liquor establishments located on Silver Lane in East Hartford and Spencer Street in Manchester, along with development and ownership of various commercial and personal properties.
A devout Catholic, Fred was a faithful communicant of both St. Rose Church and St. Isaac Jogues Church in East Hartford and a member of the Men’s Club at both churches. In 2002, he and his late wife, Marjorie, started the Grandparents Club at East Catholic High School in Manchester. They were also inducted into the East Catholic Hall of Fame for their active, enthusiastic, and generous support to the East Catholic Community. Fred and Marjorie were also generous and supportive to many organizations and youth groups, and people in need in the East Hartford and Chester, VT areas. Fred immensely enjoyed his second home at “Stone Village” in Chester Depot, VT where he loved having his family and friends to share good times with. When he and his wife were not entertaining, they would love traveling to various destinations in the United States and the world.
Fred is survived by his beloved daughter, Camille Kellogg and her husband, Tom, of South Glastonbury; a devoted daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (Oliva) Leone of East Hartford; two loving granddaughters, Marisa Leone and her fiancé, Israel Maldonado, Vanessa Leone and her friend, David Mikkelson, all of East Hartford; two cherished great-grandchildren, Gianni Leone and Angelina Leone both of East Hartford; one sister, Joan Maschi and her husband, Robert, of East Hartford; a sister-in-law, Ellen Leone of Glastonbury; many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and dear friends. Besides his adored wife and parents, he was predeceased in 2013 by his beloved son, Frederick “Rick” Leone, Jr. of East Hartford; four brothers, Paul Leone, Angelo Leone, Gordon Leone, and Roxie Leone.
Funeral service will be Thursday (May 28th) at 9 am from the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am by Rev. Lou Cremonie at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, (Section D), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday (May 27th) from 4-6 pm.
