Gary Albert Dodd, 73, of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford on December 28, 1948, a son of the late Frank E. and Merle M. (Farrar) Dodd, he had been a resident of East Hartford for most of his life. Gary was a graduate of George J. Penney High School, class of 1967. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marines Corp during the Vietnam War and was a member of the VFW Post #2083 of East Hartford. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for several years by Lydall Paper Mill Company in Manchester. A true outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed nature, and fishing with his son. He was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Orioles. Everyone who knew and loved Gary will miss his sense of humor, corny jokes, and his kind, giving heart. Most of all, Gary loved being a grandfather who cherished his time with his four adored grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Frances (Condon) Dodd of Ellington; a daughter, Koren “Kory” E. Dodd and her fiancée, Luke Kearns, of East Hartford with whom he made his home; three sons, Gary W. Dodd of Ellington, Jamie L. Dodd of Middletown, Kyle M. Dodd of Holyoke, MA; a brother, Rick Earle Dodd of Barkhamsted; four adored grandchildren, Julie Dodd of Willington, Connor Kearns, James Kearns, Shane Kearns all of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Private funeral service with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family with assistance from Freedom Riders. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. As Gary would say to all of his veteran friends, “Semper Fi”! The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
