Gertrude “Gert” C. (Laurie) Satalino, 100, of East Hartford, loving wife for over 38 years of the late George E. Satalino, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, December 11, 2020 with her caring family by her side. Born in New Britain on January 14, 1920, a daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Bengston) Laurie, she had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 60 years. Gert was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1938, and was employed by the former AARP Pharmacy on Main Street, East Hartford.
A woman of strong faith, Gert was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of East Hartford. She was a talented craftswoman who loved sewing and making ceramics for her family and friends. She also liked working on jigsaw puzzles and was a terrific baker and cook who looked forward to Sunday and holiday dinners. Most of all, she was a proud homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family.
Gertrude is survived by her seven beloved children, Edward Satalino of Long Beach, CA, Carol Pugrab of Broad Brook, George Satalino and his wife Leigh of North Carolina, Tom Satalino and his wife Sharon of South Windsor, Linda McGuire of Florida, Margaret Satalino of East Hartford with whom she made her home, and Howard Satalino and his wife Sarah of East Hartford. She also leaves a sister, Lillian Landrie of New Britain; thirteen special grandchildren; twenty adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, former customers, and dear friends. Beside her husband and parents, Gert was predeceased by a sister, Jean Mike; a brother, William Laurie; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Satalino; and a son-in-law, Stanley Pugrab.
Due to the current health crisis, private funeral service and burial at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
