

Giandonato “John” Caranfa, 69, of Glastonbury, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and deep love for his family. Born on May 23, 1956, he was the beloved son of Assunta (Polce) Caranfa and the late Rodolfo A. Caranfa.
John grew up in East Hartford and graduated from George J Penney High School, Class of 1974. He went on to attend the University of Connecticut, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1978.
He had a distinguished career in insurance at The Hartford and Travelers for many years until his retirement. John was a passionate sports fan and was a lifelong follower of the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, and his beloved UCONN Huskies. John also enjoyed going to concerts and attending shows at The Bushnell.
Those closest to him will remember his steady presence, warm heart, and the quiet ways he showed up for others whenever they needed him. Known for his gentle nature and genuine kindness, John had a way of making people feel welcome and valued. Whether through a thoughtful word, a helping hand, or simply his presence, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
John is survived by his sons, Jonathan Caranfa, Jonathan’s wife Christine, and Nicolas Caranfa; his three grandchildren, Olivia, Daniel, and Lucas Caranfa; his sister, Anna Caranfa; his mother, Assunta Caranfa; his partner Lucy Lennox, and many close friends. John is predeceased by his father, Rodolfo A. Caranfa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10 am at St. Paul’s Church of SS. Isidore and Maria Parish, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
