

Gregory M. “Hopper” Hopkins, 71, of Rocky Hill and formerly of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 4, 2017 after a long illness. Born in San Francisco, CA on March 31, 1946, a son of the late Richard and Pauline (Lirosi) Hopkins, he had resided in East Hartford for most of his life. Greg was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1965 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 38 years by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford. Greg was a member of the Volunteer Hose Company #3, East Hartford and a former member of the East Hartford Democratic Town Committee. He also served on the Planning and Zoning Committee in East Hartford for many years. A talented and avid golfer, Greg was a former long-time member of the East Hartford Golf Club where he was a past president and member of the Men’s League for many years.
Greg is survived by a son, Greg W. Hopkins and his wife, Jessica, of Milton, NH; a daughter, Reagan Sundin and her husband, Jimmy, of Ellington; a sister, Debbie Buffington and her husband, Robert “Bob”, of Ivoryton; four grandchildren, Kaila Morrow and Jaidyn Morrow both of Ellington, Ellie Hopkins and Gianna Hopkins both of Milton, NH; a step-granddaughter, Katie Harrison of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held next Friday (August 18th) at 9:30 am at the Rocky Hill VA Hospital followed by burial with military honors at Colonel Raymond Gates Cemetery, West Street, Rocky Hill. Greg’s family will receive relatives and friends on this Friday afternoon (August 11th) from 3 – 5:30 pm at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
