Gregory Tuchay, 86, of East Hartford, husband of over 49 years of Carol Tuchay, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. Born in Hartford, on April 13, 1938, a son of the late Mamie and Awdey Tuchay, and brother of Alex and Alice Tuchay, had resided in East Hartford for over 50 years.
He graduated from UCONN and Boston University with Honors. He also managed the campus radio station, WHUS. His Station Manager days in 1956 and love of Communications were ongoing in life. He enjoyed Rush Limbaugh, a great political debate and he especially appreciated talk radio, namely WFSB, Hartford. He had a quick-witted sense of humor.
He was an Army Veteran and very proud of this. He also loved Hartford and had a passion for the landscaping and Art History and brownstone structures in general. He enjoyed and appreciated artists like Barbara Streisand, Toni Braxton and Donna Summer. He was a foodie, loved to cook and appreciated Broadway, instilling both of these passions on his own children and was also a history buff. Two of his most beloved travel destinations were Puerto Rico and Mexico. San Francisco, however, was by far his most enjoyable. Namely, Pier 39 and Lombard Street. Travel and Leisure magazine arrived weekly.
Greg was entrusted with his father’s family business, Tumble Brook Beverage Company which he owned and operated for decades on both Madison Street in Hartford and in Bloomfield. He had many friends in Hartford where he oversaw the business, did “pack outs” himself and frequently visited his valued customers. His favorite store to frequent was Copaco. He carried with him the gift of gab. He loved to chat all things Beverage and was even featured on public television at one point in honor of small business. Iberia Foods kept him active until well into his 70’s.
He lived a long prosperous life and was a strong person and one hardworking man. He was a courageous patient and even showcased his humor there by at one point stating to the congregation of the surrounding doctors, “I bet you all wonder why I called you to this meeting…” Greg never let his health impede on his busy lifestyle and his work was a passion to him in life.
Gregory is survived by his supportive son, Matthew Tuchay; a loving daughter, Beth Wrobel of Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Richard Busher; three adored grandchildren whom he cherished, Kyle Tuchay, Katie Tuchay and Avery Wrobel; his grand-pup Joe and feline Lily, and many dear friends and family, a dear niece Sheri Tuchay, a like son Rich Gonzalez, a like daughter Rebecca Baker and other Tumblebrook and Hartford acquaintances and friends.
