Helen J. Kowalski, 94, of East Hartford, CT peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, March 1, 2024 and has reunited with her late husband Richard. Born in Boston, MA on December 25, 1929, a daughter of the late Edward and Sophie (Jozwicki) Fedukowski. Prior to her retirement, Helen worked for the CT State Department of Transportation as an Executive Secretary. A devout catholic, she was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford and formerly was a soloist and sang in the choir at her childhood church in Boston. Helen will be remembered for family holiday celebrations, her clip-on earrings, and highly competitive Scrabble games, which she always won. Her Polish heritage remained close to her heart whether it was her cooking or the Krakowiak dance. Above all, family was most important to Helen. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Helen is survived by her three devoted daughters: Mary Ann Kowalski and her husband James McLeod of Longboat Key, FL; Joan Degen and her husband Jeffrey of South Windsor; Caroline Troy and her husband Paul Lussier of Hebron; four adored grandchildren: Bradford Degen and his wife Laura of Gambrills, MD; Sarah Muzio and her husband Peter of Ithaca, NY; Matthew Troy and his wife Katie of Bethel, CT and Jessica Troy of Los Angeles, CA; five cherished great-grandchildren: Theresa and Charles Jeffrey Degen, Phineas and Genevieve Muzio, and Emilia Troy, along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to her husband, Helen is predeceased by a son-in-law Anthony Troy.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 9, 2024 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Rose Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be made to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.
