Huguette “Hugie” (Perreault) Dion, age 89 of East Hartford, passed away peacefully at home with her caring family by her side on Friday, March 15, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Eugene A. Dion for 58 years. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on May 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Donalda (Robillard) Perreault and resided in East Hartford for over 60 years.
A devout Catholic, Hugie was a longtime faithful communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in East Hartford, helping with church functions and volunteering as needed. She also volunteered for many years at the local soup kitchen. She cared for many friends and neighbors in need over the years.
Hugie was a devoted and loving mother to Anne Dion, Alice Ivy (Michael), the late Steven Dion, John Dion (Debra), Carol Mawhinney (David), and James Dion (Michelle). She was a very proud grandmother to her 13 grandchildren and her 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Gilles Perreault (Linda); three sisters, Jeanne Levesque, Yvette Guillemette (Gerard) and Gisele Chapdelaine, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Hugie’s Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 21 at the St. Christopher’s Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Her private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Hugie’s name to The Friendship Soup Kitchen, 16 Church St., East Hartford, CT, 06108.
