James Francis Manning

James F. Manning, 86, of East Hartford, loving husband of 41 years of Diane (Winiarski) Manning, passed away peacefully surrounded by his caring family at his home on Monday, September 2, 2019. Born in Troy, NY on February 13, 1933, a son of the late James F. and Kathryn (Flynn) Manning, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 56 years. Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War where he was on the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis. He was a member of the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford for over 30 years and a longtime member of the American Legion Post #77, East Hartford. Jim was also the founder of the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis Reunion Association. Prior to his retirement, Jim was employed for over 25 years by the Hartford Fire Insurance Company as a Facility Engineer. Jim enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He also loved dogs and would walk his dog in the local neighborhood park faithfully until his illness would not allow him. Along with his beloved wife Diane, Jim is survived by his four sons, Michael Manning of Tolland, Joseph Manning of Wethersfield, Robert Manning and his wife, Moira, of Loudonville, NY, Daniel Manning of Dayton, OH; a sister, Eileen Trapatsos of Troy, NY; four grandchildren, Christopher Manning of Tolland, Caitlin Manning and Sean Manning both of Loudonville, NY, Shannon Manning of Clermont, FL; a great-granddaughter, Riley Manning of Tolland; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, David Manning of Mesa, AZ. Funeral service will be Friday (September 6th) at 1 pm at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran’s Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. There are no calling hours.
