

Janet (Price) Hartman, 85, of East Hartford, loving wife of the late Charles ""Charlie"" Hartman, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, (January 17, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center, Hartford. Born in Downsville, NY, on February 2, 1926, a daughter of the late Frederick and Velma (Woehrle) Price, she had resided in East Hartford for the past 12 years. Prior to her retirement, Janet was employed for 22 years by the state of New York as the first woman Assistant Revision Clerk for the state Legislation in Albany. A community activist for most of her life, Janet was a founding member of the Democratic Club in Delaware County, NY where she was also a Vice Democratic Chairman. She was also a former member of the Board of Education for the Downsville, NY Central School District. While in New York, Janet was actively involved with her children through school P.T.O. and scouting while being a real estate agent. She was also the former owner and operator of the Albany Voice weekly newspaper, and former owner of a fire alarm company that served a high percentage of businesses and residential home owners throughout the state of New York. Even after her retirement from the state of New York, she worked as a weight-loss counselor for many individuals. Upon her arrival in East Hartford, Janet quickly resumed her involvement with politics by becoming a member of the Democratic Women's Club and serving on the East Hartford Democratic Town Committee. She was also a quarterly-member of East Hartford Child Plan and attended Our Lady of Peace Church and Blessed Sacrament Church, both in East Hartford. As active as Janet was, she still found time to be with her caring family, play bingo, and read many newspapers and her Kindle. Besides her beloved husband, Charlie, and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Roy Daniels of Walton, NY and Bruce Stoesser of Downsville, NY. Janet is survived by her two daughters, Gay Baker and her husband, David, of Clifton Park, NY, and Commissioner of the State of Connecticut Motor Vehicles Department, Melody Currey and her husband, Donald, of East Hartford; a step-daughter, Lynn Sarles and her husband, Thomas, of Holly Hill, FL; five devoted grandchildren, Janet Buckmiller and her husband, Emil, of New York, Wendy Nichols and her husband, Dan, of New York, Becky Johansen and her husband, Eric, of East Hartford, Jeffrey Currey of East Hartford, Matthew Currey and his wife, Danielle, of East Hartford. She also leaves six adored great-grandchildren, Shanna, Danielle, Matthew, Devin, Mariah, and Lily; many former co-workers and dear friends, especially Genevieve Goode and Jane Cline both of East Hartford along with all the residents of Willow arms Senior Housing in East Hartford.
Funeral services will be Saturday (January 21) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford, CT with Rev. James Nock officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
