Jean McNamara, 89, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late Edward McNamara, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2019 at home. Jean was born on July 11, 1929 in New Britain and was the daughter of the late James and Isabel (McNessa) Murphy. Jean worked in the Alumni Office at UHART, retiring in 1994. She was an active member of St. Christopher Church, Hearts and Hands, Prayer Shawl Knitting Group and the East Hartford Woman’s Club. As much as she was involved in many community services, she was especially devoted to her family. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Jean will be missed by her children, Kevin McNamara of East Hartford, Robert McNamara and his wife Virginia of Sandwich, MA, Neil McNamara and his wife Sandra of Southington and Anne Gardner and her husband Glenn Frechette of East Hartford. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Connor, Colin, Morgan and Kaitlyn, along with her sister, Patricia Bernardi of Glastonbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edmund Campion Parish (St. Christopher Church), 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 8, from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
