
John R. ""Jack"" Curtin, Jr., 63, of East Hartford, walked peacefully Home on Friday, (April 1, 2011) with his loving children by his side at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on January 8, 1948, a son of Julia (Dyber) Curtin of East Hartford and the late John R. Curtin, Sr., he had been a resident of East Hartford for most of his life. Jack was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1967 and an honored U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a Sergeant with the 9th Infantry in the Mekong Delta and was awarded the CIB and Air Medal which he was very proud of. Jack was a life member of the VFW Post #2046, Manchester, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Disabled American Veterans-CT Chapter 12. He was also a 30-year member of the Knights of Columbus-Council #3901, East Hartford and the founding member of the F. Ray Sunshine Club. Jack was the manager for several years at the former Town Hall Hardware in East Hartford and an avid loyal fan of the New York Yankees. He enjoyed bowling, singing Karaoke, working in his yard and fixing various things, and being a genuine friend to all as he was willing to help others in need. Along with his mother, Jack is survived by his beloved children, son Jason A. Curtin and his wife, Ashley, of Seffner, FL, daughter Kristen M. Coxon and her husband, Alan, of Tariffville; a brother, Thomas Curtin, Sr. of East Hartford; four sisters, Carole Earle of Glastonbury, Julie Lawlor and her husband, Michael, of Cocoa Beach, FL, Jeannie Chebro and her husband, Michael, of Woodstock, Janice Comas and her husband, Darby, of Avon; five adored grandchildren, Emily, Logan, Jacob, Brianna, Alexander; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday (April 5) at 11 a.m. at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be at Veterans Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday morning from 10 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
