

John “Jack” Nichols Harris, 89, of East Hartford, loving husband for 62 years of Betty C. Harris, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Born in Peterborough N.H. on April 23, 1933, a son of the late Vernon and Dorothy Harris, he was raised in the hills of the Monadnock Region and spent most of his life as a resident of East Hartford. Jack was a graduate of Peterborough High School and the University of Hartford where he earned his Baccalaureate degree. John was a member of the United States Army serving in the Army Security Agency, stationed in Korea. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Raymond Engineering as a Purchasing Manager in aerospace manufacturing.
Jack was a skilled craftsman who was a true "Jack of all trades". He was accomplished in woodworking, building stonewalls, creating stained glass, and anything else he put his mind to. Along with his wife Betty he worked tirelessly in his yard gardening and making their home a beautiful, loving place. Jack was kind and caring, spending much of his time helping others. Jack is survived by his three adoring children, Stuart Harris and his wife Madeline, John V. Harris and his wife Bonita and Wendy H. Willis and her husband James; eight grandchildren, Melissa Holderbach and her husband Brad, Alison Sykes and her husband Jon, Danielle Willis and her fianc? Jonathan, Emily Burgin and her husband Hardie, Jonathan Harris, Brian Harris and his wife Katie, Julia Switzer and her husband Michael, Benjamin Willis and his wife Nicole; twelve great-grandchildren, Paxon and Corbin Holderbach, Paityn and Clay Sykes, Colton, Charlotte and Olivia Burgin, John and Rebecca Harris, Sofia Codorniu, Lucy Willis and Lincoln (Jack) Switzer. He also leaves behind his Aunt Estelle, best friend Daniel, nephew Michael, niece Karen, sister-in-law Nancy and many other dear friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife Betty, twin sister Judith and brother Kendall.
Private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack's name may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Chapel Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
