John O. Newberg, 60, of Vernon, loving husband of over 31 years of Darlene (Dumond) Newberg, peacefully went on his final journey with family nearby on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on March 12, 1959 he had resided in East Hartford for many years prior to moving to Vernon over 28 years ago. John was a graduate of George J. Penney High School in East Hartford, Class of 1977. Prior to his retirement, John was a former member of the Steel Workers Union Local #832 and also was employed by Heidelberg U.S.A. as a Service Technician for over 15 years. An avid outdoorsman, he liked fishing, hunting, and was a fan of NHRA Drag Racing. He was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Red Sox. Most of all John loved his family and showed that by being a devoted caring husband and loving proud father who liked “giving a hard time” at any time of the day/night to his two cherished daughters and their friends.
Besides his beloved wife Darlene, John is survived by his two daughters, Courtney May Newberg of Manchester and Tiffany Lynn Newberg of Vernon; his mother, Patricia (Poston) Clarke of East Hartford; two sisters, Polly Silva and her husband, Stephen, of East Hartford, Suzan Rudnicki and her husband, Karl, of Carmel, Maine. He also leaves two special nephews who were like his own sons, Bryce Dumond and Jake Dumond both of East Hartford; a longtime friend, Charlie “Uncle Chuck” Burnham and his wife, Roberta, of Vernon; his best furry friend, Gunner; and several other nieces, nephews, and friends. John was predeceased by his caring in-laws, Joseph and Hilda (Nauss) Dumond of East Hartford; his father, Warren Roy Newberg; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Browne) Dumond; and two brothers, Bruce Newberg and David Newberg.
A private Celebration of John’s life and burial will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-CT Chapter, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112, Attention: Tributes, or to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
