

John-Patrick Rivera, Sr., 33, of Hartford, passed away suddenly, Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was the son of the late Mary-Jane (Guida) and Isabello “Johnny” Rivera. John-Patrick was born in Hartford on September 4, 1984. He grew up in Manchester, CT and later moved to Middletown, CT. He was previously employed by Austin Organs in Hartford, CT as an Organ Builder. Most recently he was employed by Block by Block/Hartford Improvement District as a Cleaning Ambassador. He was very enthusiastic about his job, offering a kind smile and daily presence to everyone he met. Big John, as he was affectionately known, loved music, writing, and most of all his children.
John-Patrick is survived by two sons, John-Patrick, Jr. and Giovanni-Capone of Middletown; his sister, Tina-Marie Rivera-Rowe, her husband Wil, and their daughter Isabella of East Hartford; his uncle/father figure Tony Valdez of Hartford; his aunt Anna-Marie Stone of Florida, two uncles, Antonio Guida and his wife Linda of California and Patrick A. Guida, Jr. and his wife Nella of Connecticut; half-siblings Joe, Lisa, and Frank Prentice, and Nereida Vasquez; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Besides his parents and grandparents, John-Patrick was predeceased by two aunts, Regina Valdez and Patricia Meyers.
A funeral service with words of remembrance will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 20 at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
