John B. Zadrozny (Johnny Z), 86, of East Hartford, loving husband of 66 years of Elaine ""Eileen"" (Dolan) Zadrozny, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, (August 1, 2013) surrounded by his devoted family at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Scranton, PA on May 12, 1927, a son of the late Bernard and Stella Zadrozny, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over 55 years. John was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. A hard working man, John worked two full-time jobs during his professional career. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford as an Expediter after 40 years of dedicated service and also retired from Nabisco Foods in Glastonbury after 30 years of faithful service. In his retirement, John continued to be active and was a daily presence at his son's local pizza restaurant (Buck's Corner Pizza in South Glastonbury). He enjoyed greeting and conversing with customers, making the dough and mentoring his young grandson on his secret recipe. For as hard as he worked, John loved the company of family and many treasured friends. He enjoyed weekly dates with his loving wife, Eileen, frequently the local casinos for a meal, a show, or a day of playing the slots. The two were inseparable. John was a member of the East Hartford Moose Lodge #1477 and an avid sports fan who enjoyed many years following the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburg Steelers. However, of all the teams John enjoyed, none gave him more pleasure than those involving his grandchildren. He bragged endlessly about his two favorite pitchers, Eileen and Johnny, and his spunky little basketball player, Abbie. Anyone who knew John would recognize the very special relationship he enjoyed with his youngest grandson, Johnny. The two spent countless hours and many sleepovers sharing their common passion for Western movies, their Polish heritage, anything collectible, and stories of yesterday. The two truly adored each other. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Zadrozny of East Hartford, and a sister, Audrey Hatcher of Glastonbury. Along with his beloved wife, Eileen, John is survived by his four sons, Bernard J. ""Ben"" Zadrozny and his wife, Patricia, of Bristol, John E. Zadrozny and his wife, Susan, of Glastonbury, Brian P. Zadrozny and his wife, April, of Coventry, Mark A. Zadrozny of Coventry; twelve special grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Tina, Adam and his wife, Katie, Corey and his wife, Jessica, Blaize, Zachariah, Eileen, Abbie, Alexandra, Jacleen, Mark, Kevin, and Johnny; and seven adored great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Jamie, Callie, Emily, Tommy, Travis, and Jillian. He also leaves two brothers, Al Zadrozny of Naples, FL, and Henry Zadrozny of East Hartford; two sisters, Helen Palka of Manchester, and Phyllis Mullock of Hartford; several nieces, nephews, former co-workers, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday (August 6th) at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford.
