Jose Eselfides Castillo

Jose E. Castillo, 93, of Colchester, beloved husband of 61 years of Carina (Samanez) Castillo, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at his home with his caring family by his side. Born in Cajamarca, Peru on February 22, 1933, a son of the late Manuel and Francisca (Cieza) Castillo, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over 30 years prior to moving to Colchester six years ago. Prior to his retirement, Jose was a police officer for many years for the city of Lima, Peru.

A devout catholic, Jose was a former faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford. He liked playing cards with his family and friends and he loved all dogs. Most of all, Jose was a hard-working gentleman who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jose is survived by his five children; one brother; two sisters; nine cherished grandchildren; ten adored great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Private funeral service and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Glastonbury will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
