Joseph Alfred Gerald Fleury, 83, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018. He was born on September 30, 1935 in Augusta, ME, to the late Ferdinand and Adrienne (Pare) Fleury. He enlisted, and served proudly, in the U.S. Marine Corp immediately after high school where he was trained in electrical engineering. After completing his service he entered into a lifelong career with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford until his retirement in 1993 after 37 rewarding years. Joe married Carol August and built a home in East Granby where they raised four daughters and he spent the last 35 years in East Hartford. He was a history and military buff, loved dogs, music, but above all, loved to spend time and go camping with his family. Joe was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and UCONN basketball, and in his younger years played baseball, basketball, and tennis and was on bowling leagues. He loved to be active!
Joe leaves behind four daughters, Lisa Fleury of Hilo, HI, Lorraine Fleury of Norwich, Allison Murphy of Niantic and Amy Therrien of East Hampton; his sons-in-law, Adam Therrien and Kevin Murphy; two grandchildren Wayne Therrien and Grace Therrien; two step grandchildren Ryan Therrien and Jason Murphy; and two brothers Norman Fleury and Paul Fleury. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday (October 18th) at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Relatives and friends are welcome to pay their respects prior to the service from 8:30 to 9:30 am.
