

Joseph M. “Joe” McCarthy, 89, of East Hartford, loving husband of 56 years of the late Estelle “Stell” (O’Connell) McCarthy, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 26, 2018 at his home. Born in Sterling, CT on July 10, 1928, a son of the late Joseph and Frances (Brunsden) McCarthy, he had been a resident of East Hartford for most of his life. Joe was a graduate of St. Mary’s School in East Hartford and East Hartford High School, Class of 1946. Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed for over 20 years as a plumber by the town of East Hartford-Board of Education. A devout Catholic, Joe was a faithful communicant of St. Rose Church and St. Mary’s Church both in East Hartford. Joe was an avid fan of UCONN sports, especially the Women’s basketball team and Men’s football team. In the past, Joe enjoyed photography and bicycling, but most of all, he was a devoted and proud husband whose life revolved around caring for his late beloved wife.
Joe is survived by two daughters, Mary Kay Creech and her husband, Jeff, of Georgetown, TX, Eileen Larson and her husband, Christopher, of Poquoson, VA; a son, Daniel F. McCarthy and his wife, Darlene, of Tolland; six cherished grandchildren, Brendan McCarthy and his wife, Nikole, of Rocky Hill, Thomas McCarthy of New York, NY, Michael McCarthy of New York, NY, Andy Creech and his wife, Charlotte, of Georgetown, TX, Katie Creech of Boerne, TX, Cori Larson of Lancaster, SC; two adored great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Creech and Hailey Creech both of Georgetown, TX; a sister, Imelda ""Polly"" Foley of Newington, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (April 3, 2018) at 9 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, corner of Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery – Veteran’s Memorial Field #4, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Monday (April 2, 2018) from 4 – 7 pm. Memorial contributions in Joseph’s name may be made to the North American Martyrs Parish, 15 Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108.
