Lillian (Dinucci) Ambrose, (June 20,1918~ June 23, 2015) had a long and beautiful life and passed away just three days after her 97th birthday on Tuesday June 23rd at St Vincent’s Hospital with her family by her side. Lillian was born in South Range, Michigan to the late Antonio and Lina (Gudoti) Dinucci. Her family moved to Milford, Mass. when she was a young girl. Work was scarce so her father, an Italian immigrant, found work in Connecticut and moved the family to Hartford. Lillian worked very hard helping her mother take care of her father and three brothers. She attended Hartford Public High School and after graduation she started her career at Veeder-Root Industries where she worked as a time keeper and when she retired she was the personal assistant to the Vice President of Marketing. During the early 40’s she met and fell in love with Albert Ambrose and soon after they were married. They had two beautiful children Donna and Albert. Lillian worked hard all of her life to help her husband and they were able to move from Hartford to East Hartford where they bought their first home and raised their family until both their children graduated from college in the late 60’s. In East Hartford, Lillian enjoyed special friends like Joe and Alice Visgillio and their children, Peter, John, Meg, Robbie and Tim. She loved making homemade chicken soup for the kids. Cooking was one of her greatest hobbies and Sunday dinner at Nonie’s was great (if you were there by 1p.m. sharp) otherwise you were out of luck. After the passing of her beloved husband Al, Lillian was asked by her son and daughter-in-law to move in with them in Trumbull, CT where everyone could keep an eye on her. A little reluctant at first to leave the old neighborhood, Lillian spent the last seven years being watched over by her son, daughter-in-law Diane, grandson Mateo and the family dog “Stella” who turned out to be her constant companion. Alison, Lillian’s granddaughter and our resident Nurse, was always visiting and checking in on Nonie along with her three daughters; Morgan, Payton and Audra. During the last few days of her life at St. Vincent’s, Ali was the one barking out the instructions to the on call nursing staff, making sure Nonie was being kept comfortable. Thank God for Ali. In the last year or so when Ali’s girls came to visit, Nonie would ask “do those girls live with Ali?” I would laugh and say “Mom those are her girls.” She would say, “ oh I know.” Her two grandsons, Teddy and Josh, as well as her son-in-law, Nick Oliva and his wife, Vita, were able to share some precious moments with Nonie in the hospital just days before she passed. We all know now that Nonie is up in Heaven with her loving daughter Donna, who she talked about all the time. She is also with Dad and I know that will make her happy as well. Nonie is survived by her son, Albert and daughter-in-law Diane as well as her four grandchildren; Alison Yazmer, Mateo Ambrose, Teddy Oliva, and Josh Oliva, her great grandchildren; Morgan, Payton, Audra, Nico, Brooks, Millie and Maisie. She is also survived her son-in-law, Nick Oliva and Nick’s wife Vita. Other surviving relatives include: Aunt Wandy, Aunt France, Tim, Denny Pauline, Ellie, Linda, DD, Tony, Frank, Bobby, Mitch, Chris and EJ. Besides her husband, she was predeceased to eternal rest by her daughter Donna Oliva and her brothers; Armando, Rinaldo and Guido Dinucci. Lillian will be missed by her entire family but knowing that she is in a better place brings relief to all of us. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 1st from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford, Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Donna Oliva.
