

Lorraine Joan (Smith) Carpenter, 84, of East Hartford, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years William ""Bill"" Carpenter, Sr. She was pre-deceased by her father, Joseph Smith, her mother Mary (Kutyla) Webber, step-father Philip Webber and brother Richard Smith. She leaves her dear sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Deborah, Kevin and Joyce, Timothy and Kassandra, and Christopher and Veronica. Her nine cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay, Frankie, Alyssa, Courtney, Morgan, Stacey, Paul, and Luke, and her beloved great-grandchildren Haley, Abigail, Riley, and Dawson. She attended East Hartford High School through her junior year and graduated from Ellsworth High School, South Windsor, Class of 1951. Lorraine met Bill while working in the Pratt & Whitney mailroom. She made many close, lifelong friendships at all of her employers over the years, among them Multi Circuits, CBT and the State of Connecticut-DAS, where she retired from. She was a proud member of the East Hartford Woman's Club. She enjoyed knitting ""preemie caps"" with her Senior Center friends that were donated to area hospitals. Her competitive spirit could be seen in bowling at Holiday Lanes for many years, bingo, bunko, and the casino slots. She and her husband followed their UConn Women's Basketball Huskies to Texas, Hawaii and Missouri. She loved to socialize on Facebook. Lorraine always thought of her family first and was generous to all. Every summer was spent camping with her boys at Hammonasset State Park and later at Ma's cottage in Madison. A graveside service will be Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11 AM at Silver Lane Cemetery (Section BB), 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford. At Lorraine's request there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's name to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108. The D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
