Lucille Helene (Picard) Rogers closed her beautiful blue eyes for the last time on Thursday, May 15, 2014. The oldest child of the late Josephel and Helene (Dufour) Picard, Lucille was born in Waterbury on December 31, 1925, and spent most of her youth in Madawaska, ME. She returned to Connecticut as a young woman and lived in Hartford, where she met and married the love of her life – Robert Francis Rogers. He predeceased her as did an infant daughter, who they would have named Beverly Ann. Lucille worked as a matron in various Hartford schools for 30 years until her retirement. She loved musicals and classic movies from “Hollywood’s Golden Era.”
Lucille is survived by her three daughters: Kathleen Rubenbauer and her husband, Raymond, of Centerbrook, Elizabeth Thompson and her husband, Michael, of South Windsor, and Elaine Rogers of East Hartford, with whom she made her home and who provided her with exceptional care during several years of declining health. Lucille is also survived by two grandsons: Michael J. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Jackeline, of Cromwell, and Paul Thompson of South Windsor; a brother, Gerald Picard of Madawaska, ME; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her beloved husband and parents, her brother Maurice predeceased her, as did her sisters Anita, Jeanette, Rachel and Geraldine.
Lucille was a deeply religious woman whose greatest joy in life was her faith and family. In addition to the great love she had for her daughters, being blessed with two adored grandsons was one of her greatest delights. Attending her eldest grandson’s wedding brought her immense pride and pleasure.
Lucille was the epitome of kindness and selflessness and she died as she lived – with quiet grace and dignity. Her daughters will cherish her memory forever and will think of her whenever they see a cardinal take wing, hear the song “Singing in the Rain” or see the pale pink of the roses she loved so much.
Funeral services will be Tuesday (May 20th) at 9 am from the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford.
