Margaretha “Greta” (Voss) Van de Berg, 94, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 and reunited with her late husband of 57 years Karel. She was born in the Netherlands on June 24, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Jozef and Gertrudis (Geelen) Voss. Greta was an East Hartford resident for most her life. Before retiring, she worked as a line worker in the foundry industry. In her free time, Greta enjoyed reading, baking, and knitting various articles of clothing for her family members or for charities. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Greta is survived by her two devoted children; Hans Van de Berg and wife Carrie of Manchester, and Maria Elliott and husband Mark of Colchester; five adored grandchildren, Aaron Elliott and his wife Jennifer, Katrina Mattern and her husband Justin, Kristen Polakow and her husband Michael, Sarah Van de Berg and her husband Dan Melling, and Eric Van de Berg and his wife Lauren; five cherished great-grandchildren, Evelyn Mattern, Olivia Polakow, Arthur Mattern, Taylor Polakow, and Eleanor Van de Berg; her brother, Herman Voss and his wife Nellie of the Netherlands; and her sister, Catrina Henning and her husband Will of the Netherlands.
Calling hours will be held on Friday (June 21, 2024) from 4 – 6 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Greta’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
