Maritza Smith

Maritza Smith, 56, of New Britain, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on October 14, 1968, she was the daughter of Eulalia Ortiz. Maritza graduated from Hartford High School. She also attended Riverside Health Center where she worked as a CNA for many years. She worked in the healthcare field as a personal care giver. In her free time, Maritza enjoyed taking numerous pictures in her home as a private photo studio. She was a fashionable, fun-loving person who loved butterflies & elephants.

Most important to her was her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend.

Maritza is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, Collington Smith of New Britan, her two cherished daughters Emily Major of East Hartford, CT, Elizabeth Harris & significant other Iran Harris of Hartford, CT. Along with 7 of adored grandchildren: Mellynie, Ni'Zyiah, Timyiah, Ka'Shari, Kyshawn Jr and I'Rianah. Her siblings: Carmen and Husband Javier of Vernon, CT, Jesus of Hartford, CT, Julio of Boston, MA and Irene of East Hartford, CT. She also leaves to cherish, her amazing best friend Suzie & her bonus daughter Desiree. Maritza is predeceased by her devoted father Julio Gomez & Grandson Jo'Saiah K. Harris.
