

Marjorie Ann “Margie” (Schick) Schleicher, 71, of East Hartford, loving wife of 49 years of James J. Schleicher, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Born in Hartford on August 3, 1954, a daughter of Barbara Ann (Karas) Bigelow and the late Robert R. Schick, she had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 45 years. Margie was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School, class of 1972. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven in 1976 and her Master’s degree in Health Management from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute (Hartford Graduate Center) in 1986. She retired from the Veterans Administration in 2016 after 40 years of dedicated loyal service at both Newington and West Haven campuses.
Margie enjoyed scrapbooking and quilting and was a member of the Greater Middletown Quilt Guild-Heart of the Valley. She was an avid reader who read over one hundred books per year, and she loved solving crossword puzzles and Suduko. She liked traveling and taking cruises with her husband and special friends, and hosting family gatherings and holidays while having plenty of homemade desserts for everyone to have more than one. Most of all, Margie took great pride in being a devoted wife, mother and especially a grandmother to her two grandsons.
In addition to her beloved husband, Margie is survived by her son, Scott T. Schleicher and his wife Rheba of Manchester; a daughter, Sara M. Schleicher of Hartford; two grandsons, Kyle Schleicher of East Hartford, and Maddox Schleicher of Manchester. She also leaves a brother, Kenneth Schick of Hartford; two sisters, Sharon Palmiotto and her husband John of Buchanan, NY, Barbara Contreras and her husband Jairo of Ridgefield; three brothers-in-law, Raymond O. Schleicher and his wife Doan of East Hartford, Walter J. Schleicher and his wife Annette of Bolton, Ronald F. Schleicher and his wife Tracy of East Hartford. She will also be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (September 30th) at 12 noon at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday morning from 10:30 am to 12 noon.
