Max R. Welch, 73, of East Hartford, loving husband of 39 years of Susan (Alexander) Welch, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Born in Swiftwater, New Hampshire on May 11, 1942, a son of the late Freeman C. and Effie E. (Green) Welch, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 35 years. Max was co-operator of Roofs by Welch, Inc., East Hartford with his wife Susan for many years. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1893, Manchester. He was an avid and loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Women's basketball team. He also was a talented Duck-Pin bowler and loved playing cards with family and friends. Besides his parents, Max was predeceased by a daughter, Samantha Lynn Welch of East Hartford. Along with his beloved wife Susan, Max is survived by a daughter, Jackie Whittaker and her husband Wayne of Cumming, GA; four sons, David R. Welch of Tolland, Douglas M. Welch of Florida, Max F. Welch of East Hartford, James D. Welch of Manchester; a brother, Bernard ""Bernie"" Welch and his wife Janet of East Hampton; three sisters, Hazel Carr of East Hampton, Shirley Fadden of New Hampshire, Ruth Boemeg of Starke, FL; nine cherished grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, customers, and dear friends. Funeral service will be Saturday (March 12, 2016) at 9:30 am from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, (Section 1), Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (March 11, 2016) from 4-8 pm.
