

Michael Malinguaggio, Sr., 91, of East Hartford, loving husband of 66 years of Carmella (Ficocello) Malinguaggio, peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 with his caring family by his side. Born in Hartford on January 7, 1921, a son of the late Sebastiano and Concetta (Aliano) Malinguaggio, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Mike was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II having served over in the African and Italy Campaign and returned home through the Pacific after 36 months of dedicated service. He was a life-time member and past Commander of the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford along with being a past State Commander for the VFW. He was a member and past State Commander of the Italian American War Veterans (ITAMS) Post #1, Hartford as well as a quarter Master and past National Junior Vice Commander of ITAMS. Prior to his retirement, Mike was a former owner and partner (with his brothers) of MJP Electric where he was an electrical contractor for over 60 years. A devout catholic, Mike was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, East Hartford and a member of their Parish Council. He was a member of the East Hartford Democratic Town Committee and past Chairman of the 7th District for the committee. He was a former Commissioner of the Inland/Wetlands in East Hartford and of the property Maintenance Code Board of Appeals in the town. He also worked with his wife for many years as a Poll worker on Election Days for the town of East Hartford. A former member of the East Hartford Rotary Club, Mike also found time to volunteer at the VA Center in Newington and other charitable organizations in the Hartford area. Most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and his summers at his cottage in Old Lyme which he built in 1952. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Peter Malinguaggio of Manchester, a son-in-law, James “Jim” McLean of East Hartford, two brothers, Sebastian Malinguaggio of East Hartford and Joseph Malinguaggio of Wethersfield; and a sister, Lucy Malinguaggio of East Hartford. Along with his beloved wife, Carmella, Michael is survived by a son, Michael Malinguaggio, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Stafford Springs; a daughter, Adrienne T. McLean of East Hartford with whom he made his home; three brothers, Dr. Paul Mali and his wife, Mary, of New London, Salvatore Malinguaggio and his wife, Carmella, of Rocky Hill, David Malinguaggio of Fort Lauderdale, FL; seven grandchildren, Thomas McLean, Bryan McLean, Michael Malinguaggio, Sheri Henderson, Susan Cartier, Lisa Traska, Gina Abdelghany; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lois Malinguaggio of Fort Meyers, FL; a daughter-in-law, Amy, and a former daughter-in-law, Eileen; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday (November 13th) at 9:30 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, (Section H), East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Monday (November 12th) from 4-7 pm.
