Michael “Mike” Salzarulo, 73, of East Hartford, loving husband of 51 years of Sheila (McDougal) Salzarulo, peacefully journeyed home into eternal rest on Monday (December 17, 2018). Born in Bisaccia, province of Avellino, Italy on July 9, 1945, a son of the late Joseph and Antonietta (Sena) Salzarulo, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 43 years. Mike was a graduate of A.I Prince Technical High School in Hartford, Class of 1963. He retired from the State of Connecticut-Department of Corrections Technology Department and worked for over 30 years as an International Sales Manager for Microtime/Digital GraphX. He loved anything and everything about technology and was the neighborhood handyman. He was talented working with his hands and was always willing to help others. He loved gardening, older cars (especially his 1980 Corvette), travelling and spending the winter months down at Lake Alfred, Florida, and was an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his beloved wife Sheila, Mike is survived by a son, Sean M. Salzarulo of East Hartford; a daughter, Kimberly A. Salzarulo of West Hartford; a brother, Salvatore Salzarulo in Thailand; and his devoted pet dog, Hershey. He also leaves his step father-in-law, Richard Kurozawa of Willington; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Wilson of East Hartford, Tina Scott and her husband, John, of Willington; two brothers-in-law, Brent McDougal and his wife, Nancy, of Meriden, Timothy McDougal and his wife, Debra, of Willington; several relatives in Italy; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with his parents, Mike was predeceased by a son, Michael J. Salzarulo; his mother-in-law, Verna Shaw Kurozawa of Glastonbury; his father-in-law, Leslie H. McDougal of Limestone, ME; three brothers-in-law, Richard Wilson of East Hartford, John McDougal of Willington, Robert McDougal of New Britain; and a sister-in-law, Kyle McDougal of Willington.
Funeral service will be Thursday (December 20th) at 9 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, (Section Y), Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday (December 19th) from 4 – 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
