Migdalia Nieves Martinez

Migdalia “Maggie” or “Dalia” (Nieves) Martinez, 52, of East Hartford, together for 27 years with her loving husband Alberto “Al” Martinez, peacefully entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Hartford Hospital after a long illness. Born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico on August 22, 1962 she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1994. She was the beloved daughter of Ada Irma (Cruzado) Mendoza of Bradenton, FL and the late Juan Nieves. Migdalia was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1981 and was employed for several years by Sam’s Club in Manchester as a Pharmacy Technician in their Pharmacy Department. Maggie enjoyed knitting (especially blankets), gardening, writing journals, and was an avid life-long fan of the New York Yankees.

Besides her devoted husband and mother, Migdalia is survived by two sons, Gregory Gonzalez and his wife, Sonimar Lopez, of North Carolina, Robert J. Gonzalez of Manchester; a daughter, Ada L. Vasquez and her husband, Adam, of East Hartford; a step-son, Albert Martinez, Jr. of Hartford; a step-daughter, Yadiana Martinez and her husband, Ruben Rivera, of Puerto Rico; four brothers, Daniel Nieves and his wife, Leticia, of Manchester, Juan Nieves and his fiancée, Marta Medina, of East Hartford, Steven Nieves and his wife, Nina, of Hartford, William Nieves of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Iris Delacruz and her husband, Miguel, of Bradenton, FL; five cherished grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral service will be Friday (July 17th) at 9 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, (Section AA), East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Thursday (July 16th) from 4-7 pm.
