Natalie Chirico

Natalie M. (Pires) Chirico, 87, of Manchester, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Born in New Bedford, MA on March 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Anthony and Alice (Lopes) Pires, she was a lifelong resident of the greater Hartford area. She grew up in Hartford and graduated from Hartford Public High School, class of 1957. She then lived in East Hartford for fifty years prior to moving to Manchester over 20 years ago. As a married woman and mother of two, she attended night school at Manchester Community College and earned her associate’s degree in accounting.

Prior to her retirement, Natalie worked over 20 years for the state of Connecticut as an accountant in the Comptroller’s office. A devout catholic, Natalie was a longtime faithful communicant of St. James Church in Manchester. Throughout her adult life, she was active in the community and was a member and past treasurer of the Mt. Carmel-St. Cristina Society. She was also a member of the Sons of Italy – Ella Grasso Lodge #2538, the Manchester Emblem Club #251, the Lady of Grace Society in Hartford, and the East Hartford Woman’s Club. Natalie was also actively involved in the Senior Centers both in East Hartford and Manchester where she had many friends.

A talented crafts individual, Natalie made ceramics for her family and friends along with knitting and crocheting scarves and blankets for her loved ones. She had a love for jewelry and created a small jewelry business named “NC Jewelry”. More recently in her life she enjoyed painting. A lifelong dog lover, she had dogs of her own most of her life. Also, she enjoyed duckpin bowling with her son in several leagues, traveling, shopping, and cooking Sunday dinners with her homemade sauce and meatballs.

Natalie is survived by her two devoted sons, Vincent A. Chirico and his wife Angela of Coventry, David Chirico and his wife Rachel of Coventry; four adored grandchildren, Vincent M. Chirico of Meriden, Michael Chirico of Coventry, Magdalen Mohan and her husband Patrick of North Waterboro, Maine, and Sarah Chirico of Coventry. She also leaves one brother, Anthony Pires, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Rocky Hill; a sister-in-law, Patricia Pires of East Hartford; a brother-in-law, Frank Chirico of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Natalie was predeceased by a brother, Richard Pires of East Hartford, and her former husband, Maurice “Moe” Chirico of Manchester.

Funeral service will be Thursday (October 1st) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. James Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 896 Main Street, Manchester. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Hebron Avenue/Wickham Road, Glastonbury. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Thursday morning. Natalie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (September 30th) from 4 – 7 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
