

Nemesia “Mencha” (Reyes) Carrasquillo, 96, of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal life on August 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 25, 1928 in Canovanas, Puerto Rico, Mencha was the daughter of the late Saturnino and Leonarda (Fraguada) Reyes. Mencha resided in East Hartford for over the last 40 years. Prior to retirement, she was a CNA for a convalescent home. Mencha was also a Reverend and member of La Iglesia De Dios, Inc. in Hartford where she was a missionary and a Bible Institute Instructor. She also taught ministry in prison. In her free time, Mencha enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with family both here and in Puerto Rico. Mencha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Mencha is survived by her four children; George Carrasquillo and his wife Ramona of Torrington, Maria D. Vargas of East Hartford, Francisco “Frank” Carrasquillo and his wife Arlene of Coventry, and Ivan Carrasquillo of New Britain. Two daughter-in-laws Mildred Carrasquillo of East Hartford and Minerva Murray of Bloomfield. Many adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Along with her three brothers Abraham, Benjamin and Luis Reyes. Mencha is predeceased by her first husband and the father of her children Francisco Carrasquillo, her son Hiram Carrasquillo, a daughter-in-law Norma Fonseca, a son-in-law Jose Vargas, a daughter-in-law Linda Carrasquillo, a great-grandson Jeremiah Rodriguez and several siblings.
A funeral service to honor Mencha’s life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford. Mencha’s family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service at the funeral home chapel from 10 – 11 am. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
