Pasqualine Mary (Tarvano) Mazun, 97, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Pasqualine was born on September 25, 1921, in Hartford, to Joseph and Carmella (Pasquariello) Tarvano, who immigrated to the U.S. from Accadia, Province of Foggia, Italy, just one year earlier. Pasqualine, who was known as “Pat” to most, spoke often and with great happiness about growing up with her five siblings; she especially enjoyed taking trips with the family to Soundview Beach, Hartford’s busy city life, and her job at Veeder-Root manufacturing; and she was a proud Class of 1939 graduate of Hartford High School. Pasqualine’s life became even richer when she met her husband, Henryk Mazun, married in 1952, and gave birth to her cherished daughter, Claudia Agnes Mazun, in 1954. Pasqualine, Henryk, and Claudia lived on Main Street in Hartford before moving to East Hartford where Pasqualine lived for over 60 years. For much of her career, Pasqualine was employed at Travelers Insurance Company and after retiring she devoted herself to spending even more time with her family, especially her daughter, Claudia, and granddaughter, Sarah, who brought joy to her life each day and with whom she shared a special bond. The three spent much time together talking, cooking, taking trips to the mall or the coffee shop, watching ball games at Kingswood-Oxford, walking in the neighborhood, and enjoying the beaches of Watch Hill. Pasqualine taught her daughter and granddaughter the values of hard work, independence, generosity, and love of family. Throughout her life, Pasqualine was a remarkably positive and energetic person. She was passionate about people, loved to hear their stories, and was a source of great advice and strength for others. Pasqualine was giving with her time and her spirit; an award-winning seamstress, she sewed, embroidered, knitted, and crocheted many beautiful items for her family and friends. Also an excellent cook, her pizzelle cookies were a special favorite that folks looked forward to each Christmas and Easter. Pasqualine’s unique resilience was admired by many, and her good-natured, loving spirit will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Home, especially those on the Adult Day Program and Baggott Street, for their compassion and friendship.
Pasqualine is survived by her daughter, Claudia Stetson, and her husband, David, of West Hartford, and her granddaughter, Sarah Mazun Stetson, and her husband, Joel Simundich, of Northampton, MA. She also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Manoryk of East Hartford and Antoinette Edgar, and her husband, Arthur, of Lebanon, a sister-in-law, Marion Kahrmann, many dear nieces and nephews, and the Stetson family with whom she had many good times: Kenneth and Karin Stetson of West Hartford, and Anne, Caroline, and Eleanor Stetson of Boston, MA. Pasqualine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Henryk, her brother, Victor Tarvano, and his wife, Helen, her brother, Genarino Tarvano, and his first wife, Dorothy, her sister, Columbia Mastrangelo, and her husband, Angelo Mastrangelo, and brother-in-law, Kazimierz Manoryk. She was also predeceased by her treasured sister-in-law, Stella Mazun, and her husband, Frank.
