Paul was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on October 23, 1959, the son of Alfred and Jeannette (Burghgraef) Smith, formerly of Glastonbury. Paul graduated from Glastonbury High School, class of 1978. He spent his career as a residential painting contractor, where "Smitty" was known for his attention to detail and dedication to his craft.
Paul found joy in the simple things in life. He was a master gardener and especially loved the outdoors and the beauty of nature. Paul spent many hours hiking in the woods when he wasn’t enjoying the beach at Misquamicut, Rhode Island.
Besides his parents, Paul is survived by two brothers and one sister—Douglas Smith (Kathy) of Grand Rapids, MI; Richard Smith (Jill) of Leadville, CO and Joanne Malone (Brian) of Mokena, IL. Additionally, four nieces and a nephew, cousins and numerous friends.
Paul’s family sends a special thank you to Wayne Peltzer for his decades long friendship and the care and compassion given to Paul at the end of his life.
A private service will be held in accordance with the family’s wishes. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date.
