Ramesh Rao Kundaje

Ramesh Rao Kundaje, 81, of East Hartford, CT, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, September 15, 2014. Born in 1933 in India, he immigrated to the United States in 1970 with his wife and two small children with the hopes of a better life for his young family.

He graduated with honors from Madras Christian College, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mathematics. He worked at Life Insurance Company of India and went on to build a life-long career in the United States at Aetna and Travelers insurance companies in Hartford.

Ramesh was a devoted husband as well as a loving father and grandfather. He leaves behind many loved ones, including his wife of 55 years, Heerah; his daughter, Vanita, son-in law, Howard, and their three children, Nikhil, Neil, and Rachel; his son, Vinay, daughter-in-law, Donna, and their three children, Timothy, Scott, and Sarah; extended family members in India, United States and around the world, as well as many good friends in the greater Hartford area.

Ramesh’s grandchildren always appreciated his unique sense of humor; they would all smile as he told them stories of his youthful days and his perspective on life and its various absurdities. He was able to laugh at his own foibles, and he always brought laughter to those around him. Those who knew Ramesh knew him as a family man devoted to God and as a kind person with a gentle soul. He will leave a lasting impression on the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be private. The D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford is caring for the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution may do so in Ramesh’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to a charitable organization of their choice.
