

Real Gilles Baron, 77, of East Hartford, loving husband of over 53 years of the late Ghislaine (Longchamps) Baron, peacefully passed away and met with the Lord on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Real was born on July 6, 1940 in Lac Megantic, province of Quebec, Canada to the late Rose Aime Drouin and Lucien Baron. At 25 years of age, he and his wife, Ghislaine, moved to Connecticut and he resided in East Hartford for the past 43 years. He was employed at CT Boiler Repair for a short period of his working career and then moved into construction as a taper and sheet-rocker. He worked several years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft until his transfer to West Hartford Stair & Cabinet where he finally retired from. Real enjoyed wood-working, especially crafting two-dimensional “Jesus” plaques, small wooden crosses and “God Bless Our Home” wall plaques that he gave away. Self-taught, he enjoyed playing his button box accordion, gardening, trips to Canada with his family, and dedicating much of his time to activities in his Catholic faith. He was a long-time active communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford where he was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and was a former custodian of the church. Real and his wife were involved with the beginning of the French-Canadian Encounter group in the Hartford area called La Renconte, and were also involved with Unbound Act, prayer groups and retreats. He would also volunteer his time doing handyman work for many neighbors and friends, deliver bread to area churches and gave to those less fortunate.
Real leaves behind three daughters; Linda Gustafson and her husband Stephen of Vernon, Sonia Baron of Bristol, and Chantal Baron of Canada; three granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; six siblings in Canada; a special friend Jeannette Lazlo of Manchester; many nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime neighbors, and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be Saturday (September 30th) at 9 am from the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace campus of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (September 29th) from 5-7 pm.
